Read MoreHide Full Article

Key Takeaways

  • PacBio partners with TychoBio to build AI models for developing RNA therapies targeting rare diseases.
  • TychoBio plans to analyze over 10,000 samples using PacBio's HiFi and Kinnex RNA sequencing technologies
  • The collaboration aims to use AI models to predict RNA therapy efficacy, duration and unintended effects.

Pacific Biosciences of California (PACB - Free Report) recently announced a collaboration with TychoBio, an AI-driven drug discovery company, to generate full-length RNA sequencing data for training models designed to develop RNA therapies for rare diseases. The collaboration will focus initially on steric blocking antisense oligonucleotides (SBOs), with plans to extend the approach to small interfering RNA (siRNA) and other RNA-targeting compounds.

Under the agreement, TychoBio will leverage PacBio HiFi and Kinnex long-read RNA sequencing to analyze more than 10,000 samples and build large-scale datasets linking SBO designs to their transcriptome-wide effects.

Mark Van Oene, president and chief executive officer of PacBio, said that high-quality sequencing data is essential to build the foundational datasets that support AI-driven biological modeling. The company believes its collaboration with TychoBio, similar to its work with Basecamp Research, could help advance the development of innovative therapies for rare diseases and improve outcomes for patients and their families.

PACB Stock Trend

Year to date, the stock has gained 12.3% against the industry’s 4.9% decline. However, the S&P 500 has risen 13.9% in the same timeframe.

The collaboration highlights the role of PacBio’s HiFi and Kinnex sequencing technologies in advancing AI-driven therapeutic research. By enabling detailed analysis of full-length RNA transcripts and treatment-induced changes across cell types, the company’s platform can help researchers build reliable models for identifying promising drug candidates. The partnership also strengthens PacBio’s presence in rare disease research, where precise genetic insights are essential to develop targeted therapies. Successful progress in TychoBio’s RNA therapeutic programs could create opportunities for additional collaborations and support demand for PacBio’s sequencing platforms and consumables.

PACB currently has a market capitalization of $724.2 million.

More on the News

PacBio’s HiFi long-read sequencing can capture full-length transcripts, including information about RNA isoforms and splicing. Combined with Kinnex technology, this approach can help researchers screen thousands of sequences across multiple cell lineages and develop models assessing both therapeutic efficacy and toxicity.

TychoBio will evaluate potential RNA therapies and use PacBio’s sequencing technology to assess their effects on the transcriptome across different cell types. The resulting data will train AI models to predict therapeutic effectiveness, duration of action and potential unintended effects.

Developing SBOs with improved efficacy and lasting effects requires a detailed understanding of how these compounds interact with the transcriptome. By characterizing their effects across different cell lineages, the collaboration aims to deepen insights into RNA regulation and SBO mechanisms of action, supporting the design of safer and effective therapies.

The collaboration adds to PacBio’s efforts to support rare disease research through partnerships with organizations including the global HiFiSolves Consortium, the n-Lorem Foundation and EspeRare, the GREGoR Consortium, Care4Rare Canada Consortium, the Genetic Alliance, Genomics England and many more. It also underscores the growing intersection of advanced sequencing technologies and AI-based biological research.

Industry Prospects Favoring the Market

According to Grand View Research, the global long-read sequencing market is estimated to reach $717.9 million in 2026 and is projected to witness a CAGR of 22.7% through 2033.

Factors like the increasing prevalence of genetic diseases like cancers and chromosomal disorders, the growing popularity of personalized medicine and technological advancements leading to third-generation sequencing innovations are expected to support market growth.

Other News

PacBio has appointed Mark Van Oene as president and CEO, effective Aug. 5, 2026. The former chief operating officer succeeds Christian Henry, who stepped down after six years but will remain on the board and advise the company through at least year-end 2026. Van Oene will focus on expanding HiFi sequencing adoption, clinical applications and AI-driven product development.
